After the TRCN PQE: Results, Certificate & Licence
Writing the Professional Qualifying Examination (PQE) is a big step, but it isn’t the last one. After the exam you’ll check your result. If you’ve passed, you’ll then complete TRCN’s online process to get your certificate and 3-year teaching licence.
TRCN has moved most of this online, and what you need to do depends on your situation. A new PQE passer follows a different route from someone who passed years ago, while a teacher who already has an old printed TRCN certificate follows another route again.
This page will take you to the right one.
TRCN Pass is an independent guide, not TRCN. All official actions — checking results, making payments and downloading your certificate or licence — happen on TRCN’s own portals, which we link to below.
Checking your PQE result
November 2026 PQE results
Status: Not yet released
TRCN has not announced a release date.
Last checked: 30 September 2026
Once TRCN releases the results, you can check yours through its candidate portal. You’ll normally need your exam number, shown on your exam slip, and the email address you registered with.
Official TRCNCheck your PQE result (opens TRCN’s website in a new tab)Each released exam can also have its own results page. This allows you to find your result using your email, NIN and date of birth, which is useful if you’ve misplaced your exam number.
Can’t access the email address you registered with? TRCN’s results service also provides a way to update it using your NIN.
What will my TRCN result show?
For recent exams, your result screen can show your score, how many questions you got right, how many you got wrong, how many you skipped, the pass mark applied to your result, and whether you passed.
Older, legacy diets may show a grade rather than the same score breakdown.
What if I think my result is wrong?
Where a review is available, the result screen lets you request a review by TRCN’s examination board free of charge.
There is a limited review window after results are released. TRCN sets that period for each exam, so if you believe there’s a mistake, don’t leave it until later.
The review can either confirm your original score or adjust it.
If you passed: getting your certificate and licence
Congratulations. Passing the PQE doesn’t by itself complete your registration. You still need to go through TRCN’s online certificate process and make the required payment.
TRCN’s current certificate page says a single payment covers both your certificate and your 3-year practising licence. They remain separate documents, but TRCN describes the current process as becoming a certified and licensed TRCN teacher in one step.
What to do after you pass
Open your result
Go to TRCN’s results page. If the portal asks you to submit your qualifications for verification first, do that. The Apply for your certificate option appears once your category is confirmed.
Sign in using your email
TRCN sends a 6-digit sign-in code to the email address you used for your PQE.
Complete any checks the portal asks for
You may be asked to verify your NIN, including your date of birth checked against NIMC, and to submit your qualification so TRCN can confirm your category. The portal says qualification verification typically takes 3–5 working days.
You may also need to add a signature, an identity photo and your state of origin to your profile. TRCN issues the certificate once your qualification is verified and your state of origin is on your profile.
Pay through Remita
TRCN shows the amount due for your category before you pay. You can also obtain an RRR if you want to pay through a bank.
TRCN’s current certificate page says a single payment covers both your certificate and your 3-year practising licence.
Set up your teacher account
After payment, TRCN emails you a link to set your teacher-portal password. The link is valid for 72 hours. If it expires, use Forgot password? with the same email address.
Download your certificate and licence
Once the process is complete, both are available from your TRCN teacher-portal dashboard.
Check your email before you pay
Make sure you can access the email address on your TRCN record before completing the process.
TRCN uses it to send the sign-in code and your teacher-account password link.
How much do the certificate and licence cost?
TRCN’s current online Fee Calculator uses a fee schedule dated March 2026.
| Category | Certificate | Licence (3 years) |
|---|---|---|
| A — PhD | ₦25,500 | ₦45,000 |
| B — Master’s | ₦19,500 | ₦36,000 |
| C — Bachelor’s / PGDE | ₦15,000 | ₦27,000 |
| D — NCE | ₦7,500 | ₦18,000 |

Pay the amount TRCN’s portal shows. We haven’t yet been able to see the combined “Amount due” ourselves.
TRCN’s website also isn’t completely consistent. An older official page still shows much lower registration and licence fees. We have asked TRCN to clarify the discrepancy.
See the full TRCN cost breakdownYour TRCN certificate
Your certificate is your permanent proof that you’re professionally registered with TRCN.
It does not expire.
When your registration is completed, TRCN also assigns your Teacher Identification Number (TID), your permanent TRCN identifier.
The certificate can be downloaded as a PDF and verified using its QR code or TRCN’s public register.
Can I get a physical TRCN certificate?
TRCN says physical copies may be issued through state offices or mailed, and advises teachers to check their portal for instructions.
We haven’t found current guidance saying that everyone automatically receives a printed certificate, or explaining exactly how to request one.
If you need a physical copy, check your dashboard or contact your TRCN state office.
If you didn’t pass the PQE
Your next step will normally be the next PQE diet.
TRCN’s current portal doesn’t show a separate retake route, but TRCN hasn’t published clear current rules covering how many times you can take the current PQE, whether there’s a waiting period, or whether a retake costs anything different from a normal PQE registration.
Older TRCN rules from 2014 allowed candidates three attempts before a minimum one-year break, but we haven’t found anything confirming that those rules still apply to today’s PQE.
So we don’t want to present them as the current rule.
Before your next attempt
Passed years ago but never got your certificate?
Don’t automatically assume you need to take the PQE again.
This is one area where the available information doesn’t fit neatly together.
What TRCN has previously said: in 2024 and 2025, TRCN was reported as saying that a PQE result was valid for one year for the purpose of obtaining a certificate.
What TRCN’s current portal says: its certificate system says “Certificates can be generated for PQE exams sat from 2019 onwards.”
And we haven’t found the one-year rule on TRCN’s current public website.
Try your existing result before paying for another exam
If you registered through TRCN’s current candidate system, look up your result and choose Apply for your certificate.
If your result is held in TRCN’s older records, use Claim past result on the results page. You’ll need your old exam number and the name on the old record.
Already have a TRCN online account? Sign in to the teacher portal and go to Certificate → I passed PQE — generate my certificate, then enter your exam number. TRCN’s portal says certificates can be generated for PQE exams sat from 2019 onwards.
If the portal won’t let you continue, open a TRCN support ticket and give them your exam number.
That way you get an answer about your record before paying to write another PQE.
Already have an old printed TRCN certificate?
If you’re already registered with TRCN and hold a printed certificate, don’t register for the PQE again just because you’ve never used the new online portal.
TRCN provides a service for linking your historical registration to its current system.
Never used the new teacher portal?
Use TRCN’s Claim your TRCN certificate service.
The system can identify historical records using details including your registration number, your certificate number, your NIN, or your name and date of birth for older paper records.
A TRCN registration number may look something like LA/P/24652. If your certificate has the word TRCN printed above the number, TRCN says that is a heading and isn’t part of the registration number.
TRCN says it will verify your details against your NIMC record before any change is made.

You can either link your legacy certificate from your profile or go to Certificate → I have a physical certificate — verify it.
You’ll be asked to upload the certificate and enter its registration number and issue date.
TRCN’s portal says this verification normally takes about 48 hours on weekdays.
Lost your TRCN registration number or TID?
Search TRCN’s public register by your TID, registration number, phone number, email or NIN.
Official TRCNSearch the public register (opens TRCN’s website in a new tab)Your TRCN teaching licence
Your certificate and teaching licence are different documents.
| TRCN certificate | Teaching licence | |
|---|---|---|
| What does it show? | You’re professionally registered with TRCN | You’re licensed to practise |
| How long does it last? | Does not expire | 3 years |
| For a new PQE passer | Issued with the licence | Issued with the certificate |
| Does it need renewing? | No | Yes |
TRCN says teaching licences are issued for a fixed 3-year term.
Already registered but don’t have a licence online?
In the Licence section of your teacher account, TRCN allows you to generate a licence if you have a verified certificate, or submit an existing physical licence for verification.
TRCN says verification of an existing physical licence is at no extra cost.
Renewing your TRCN teaching licence
When your licence is due for renewal, sign in to your TRCN teacher account, open Licence and choose Renew license.
TRCN says it sends email and SMS reminders before expiry.
Official TRCNOpen the teacher portal (opens TRCN’s website in a new tab)What if my licence has already expired?
TRCN’s current portal says an expired physical licence can no longer be verified.
Instead, apply for a fresh licence through your account.
TRCN also says you do not need your old licence number to do this.
How much does licence renewal cost?
TRCN has not published a separate current renewal-fee table that we have been able to find.
The teacher portal shows the amount applicable to your category when you renew.
We won’t guess at a renewal fee from older information.
Do I need MCPD credits?
TRCN says teachers must accumulate Mandatory Continuing Professional Development (MCPD) credits during each licensing period.
Its MCPD guidance says the credits are required for licence renewal, although TRCN’s separate licence-renewal guidance says you may need sufficient MCPD credits before renewal.
We haven’t found a current official figure stating how many MCPD credits are required.
Your teacher dashboard shows the MCPD hours recorded against your account.
What about TRCN induction?
You may also come across a separate charge for induction.
TRCN’s current Fee Calculator lists:
| Category | Induction |
|---|---|
| A — PhD | ₦10,000 |
| B — Master’s | ₦8,000 |
| C — Bachelor’s / PGDE | ₦7,000 |
| D — NCE | ₦6,000 |
TRCN has an Induction Division and an Oath Taking Unit, and it holds induction ceremonies where new teachers formally take the Teachers’ Oath.
What its current public guidance doesn’t clearly explain is whether every PQE passer must complete induction, where it sits in the current online certificate-and-licence process, or how an individual teacher arranges it.
The current online certificate process doesn’t mention induction.
So we’re not going to invent a process that TRCN hasn’t published. If you’re told that you need induction, ask your institution or TRCN state office how to complete it.
